Summer in the Land hit a home run Tuesday at Progressive Field – even if the Guardians bats remained silent.
More than 1,800 interns took over the stadium for the ultimate summer kickoff — catching the Guardians vs. Reds game, connecting with fellow students and young professionals, and soaking up the perfect Cleveland evening.
But the night wasn’t just about baseball — it was the launch of a summer series designed to help students and interns meet new people, explore the city, and see all the amazing things Greater Cleveland has to offer.
“Summer in the Land connects interns to each other and to Cleveland,” says Kara Carter, GCP Vice President, Talent Solutions. “We hope their experience inspires them to start their careers here.”
The program is sponsored by Cleveland Talent Alliance, a consortium of public, private and nonprofit organizations focused on attracting new talent.
Coming up soon: Juneteenth and Parade the Circle Saturday. (See more events here.) All interns also received a free ticket to Cedar Point, a destination on many summer bucket lists.
Registrants came from near and far to the Land, representing more than:
- 472 companies
- 211 colleges
- 42 states
- 44 countries – with 20 from India alone.
One lucky intern, Grace Schaefer, a rising senior from Nebraska who is interning at Smucker’s, even got to throw out the first pitch.
“It was a great opportunity to work for a great company. I just couldn’t say no,” said Schaefer. “I hope I get to learn a lot about Cleveland.”
